Getting married can be expensive.
Recently a story surfaced on Reddit about a dad who had been putting money aside for his daughter’s wedding.
He explained in the post that his daughter had postponed her wedding for more than a year and then she eloped. Since dad was having issues with his car, he decided to buy a new one. Then he decided to go on vacation.
In the post he wrote. “After she told me the news I was thrilled to be able to put it to other use,” the father explained. “My car has been having some trouble lately so I decided to just treat myself and get a new car in cash with the wedding fund. I paid about [$30,000] and with the rest of the money my wife and I decided we would take our own little getaway. I didn’t think this was controversial.”
A few weeks go by, and his daughter asked if she could use the wedding fund he had saved up for a down payment. When he told her that he spent the money she was upset, and his ex-wife called him “selfish”.
So dad took to Reddit to see if he was in the wrong. The Reddit post generated over 1,000 comments, and it seems that Redditors were on his side.
Did he do anything wrong?
