Selena Gomez made her return to music with the release of her new single, “Lose You to Love Me.”
Gomez teased the drop of “Lose You to Love Me” with cryptic posts across social media last week. She shared a black-and-white photo on Thursday, October 17, that read, “Rose colored glasses all distorted.”
The tease was one of many on social media.
The song was accompanied by a black and white music video, which was all recorded on an iPhone 11 Pro. It features closeups of Selena staring straight into the camera and standing alone as she sings. Fans have been speculating that the song is about her complicated relationship with Justin Bieber.
At one point, she sings, “Set fire to my purpose and I let it burn,” an apparent nod to the title of Bieber’s 2015 album, Purpose. Later on, she sings, “In two months, you replaced us / Like it was easy.”
As you might remember, the couple called it quits in April of 2018. Bieber was first spotted with his now wife Hailey in June, just two months after he and Selena reportedly broke up.
Gomez confirmed on Instagram in September 2018 that she was working on recording her third solo record.
When will we hear the rest of the album, great question. We’ll just have to wait patiently for more music.
